Drum & Bass MCs – yay or nay?

With this short article, I’d like to express my opinion on a topic that divides people into two camps – MC’s. Are they a welcomed part of the party or do they ruin your experience?

Since we’ve moved to the UK, I noticed how differently are these artists perceived here – they are really popular! I come from a place where the opposite is true. But at the end of they day, doesn’t it all comes down to the quality? Generalising it by geographical location doesn’t give much sense, does it. In every ”sport” there are really good and average athletes (I’m from the average group myself, so I know) and the same applies to Masters of Ceremonies. Unfortunately, there are more and more MCs trying to speak as much and as fast as possible. Creating some kind of competition between them, focusing on quantity, not quality. And then people request their performance to be cut out from the DJ’s set published on YouTube. No shit Sherlock?

I believe that a good MC is the one who can distinguish between when to stay quiet, when it’s time to hype the crowd and who realises that music is what people came for in the first place (unless there’s some badass MC coughcoppacough having his own show). Quality performance is the one that is soul warming and completes the story being told by the DJ through his set, if it’s liquid or neuro.

Share if you agree, or – if you disagree, let me know in the comments on social media, I am curious about your opinions
